Comments: Room with single beds, wardrobe, nightstand, telephone, and fan. Rooms with AC are E£ 10 per person with breakfast. Shared WC has hot shower, sink, and sit-down toilet. Neither bath towels nor toilet paper are provided. Breakfast consists of cereal, milk, bread, jam, and tea or coffee. The back side of the hotel foundation seems to be sinking because the whole building is at a slight slant. Tours to Abu Simbel are offered at reception for the same price as public bus fare. |

The cleanest cheap accommodation in Cairo is said to be Hotel Roma which charges E£ 25 per person. Hotel Roma was completely full when we arrived to Cairo in the morning. |

Comments: Hut with double bed, nightstand, and fan. Other room options are singles in cement blocks for E£ 5 and double rooms with private WC for E£ 20 for 2 people. Shared WC has 4 hot salt-water showers, sinks, and sit-down toilets. Bathrooms are cleaner than the huts. Neither bath towels nor toilet paper are provided. A relaxing lounge area on the beach next to the Red Sea is ideal for reading, snoozing, and meeting people. A wide selection of breakfast and lunch choices is available at extra charge. Snorkel gear from reception is E£ 5 per day. The coral reef and colorful fish are 20 meters off shore from the hotel. We viewed 12 hotels and camps in Dahab and decided that Venus is the best value for money in town. Other camps in the same price range as Venus were considerably dirtier. |

Comments: Room with single beds, nightstand, dresser, air conditioner, fan, and WC with hot water shower, sink, and sit-down toilet. Neither bath towels nor toilet paper are provided. Shared WC in the hall has a bathtub. Breakfast consists of poor quality white bread rolls, cheese, butter, jam, and a small glass of tea or coffee. Oasis Hotel sells tours of good value to the West Bank of Luxor. The guide is informative and for a E£ 10 surcharge, he will secure admission tickets to the Tomb of Nefertari which only admits 150 people per day. |

Comments: Room with 2 single beds, nightstand, fan, and WC with hot water shower, sink, and sit-down toilet. Windows have screens, a high priority because of the mosquito infestation around the oasis. Neither bath towels nor toilet paper are provided. Shared WC in the hall is dirty. Yousef Hotel sells a tour to a hot springs and fresh-water oasis for E£ 50 per person that other travelers have recommended and we plan to try. |
